Christopher Leong is a well-respected litigator in Malaysia who has experience handling construction, commercial, banking and securities cases. He acts on both litigation and arbitration mandates.

Is highlighted for his superb corporate and commercial litigation practice, where he demonstrates in-depth expertise in securities and banking disputes.

EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

Christopher has more than 34 years of experience in corporate and commercial litigation, shareholders’ disputes, and banking and securities litigation. In addition, Christopher acts as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations, both locally and overseas, and presides as an arbitrator in arbitrations. Additionally, he practices in the area of constitutional and administrative law, and public interest litigation.

Christopher is an inductee of the Dispute Resolution Hall of Fame in Malaysia by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Over the years, Christopher has received legal accolades and awards including being ranked by Chambers Asia Pacific since 2009 to date; named an Elite Practitioner by Asialaw Leading Lawyers for Dispute Resolution since 2020 to date, having previously been named as a Leading Lawyer from 2008 to 2016, and a Market Leading Lawyer from 2017 to 2019; named as one of Malaysia’s Top 100 Lawyers by the Asia Business Law Journal since 2020 to date; as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific since 2021 to date; and has been included in The Legal 500 Private Practice Powerlist (Arbitration): Southeast Asia from its inception in 2022 to date.

Christopher was the President of the Malaysian Bar (2013-2015) and was the President of LAWASIA, the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific (2017-2019).

He is presently empanelled as an arbitrator of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), and the Borneo International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (BICAM). He was an external mediator and adjudicator on the Panel of Mediators and Adjudicators of the Securities Industry Dispute Resolution Center (SIDREC), and is now an external mediator and adjudicator on the Panel of Mediators and Adjudicators of the Financial Markets Ombudsman Service (FIMOS). He has previously served on the Advisory Council of the AIAC.

Christopher is a specialist participant of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption (APPG-IGAC); a member of the Taylor’s University Law School Legal Profession Advisory Panel; and a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), a non-profit cross-partisan public policy research institute in Malaysia.

Christopher is the recipient of the University of Nottingham Alumni Laureate Lifetime Achievement Award 2018. Christopher was also recognised in 2023 as one of Monash University’s 60 most accomplished alumni from Monash Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Performing Arts.
