Calvin practices in the fields of corporate and commercial litigation, arbitration, and administrative law. He regularly represents clients as counsel and junior counsel at all-tiers of Malaysian courts for contentious matters of various kinds including shareholders’ disputes, corporate fraud, contravention of securities law regulating the capital markets, breach of contract and judicial review.

EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

Calvin began his career as a dispute resolution and intellectual property associate at an international affiliated legal firm in Kuala Lumpur. He assisted in contentious matters concerning corporate insolvency, civil fraud, trademark infringement, breach of secrecy and debt recovery for a wide range of clientele, including both domestic and international corporations.

Calvin joined the firm in 2020 as an associate in the dispute resolution arm of the firm. He was made senior associate in 2021 and a junior partner in 2024.

Calvin’s notable experience include:

  • representing and assisting in a civil enforcement action by regulator against individuals for contravention of securities laws resulting in the siphoning of approximately RM200million from four public listed companies.
  • representing and assisting a prominent construction company in two civil appeals involving a stay pursuant to the Construction Industry Payment Adjudication Act 2012 of an adjudication decision relating to the construction of a landmark skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur.
  • representing and assisting 2 domestic product manufacturers in a judicial review against the relevant authority’s decision to remove completely the anti-dumping duties previously imposed against merchandises imported from Vietnam and Korea into Malaysia.
  • representing and assisting in an application for judicial review against the decision of a dispute resolution center following a dispute in relation to the sale of investment products.
  • representing and assisting an international solar energy company in conducting investigations relating to an alleged infringement of registered patents for solar energy products.
  • represented and assisted an international energy company and its affiliates in an arbitration administered under the Singapore International Arbitration Centre Rules in a dispute concerning allegations of defective design, manufacture, supply and installation of an equipment of a power plant.
  • represented and assisted the family of a deceased shareholder, director and Chief Executive Officer of a public listed oil palm and property conglomerate in a series of dispute involving an alleged trust over the assets and shares held by the deceased.

QUALIFICATIONS

Calvin graduated from the University of Malaya with a LL.B. (Hons) in 2017. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2018.
