Alexie’s primary focus is in the area of commercial and corporate litigation. She has experience in matters involving administrative law, disciplinary proceedings, corporate restructuring and insolvency, company law, contractual and business disputes, breach of confidentiality and land related matters. She is also trained in IP litigation and disputes, enforcement and trademark prosecution matters.

EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

Alexie’s recent notable experience includes:

  • Representing one of the “Big Four” accounting firms in statutory audit matters including in disciplinary proceedings in relation to its audit of a state-owned enterprise.
  • Acting for a company in related proceedings against the Government of Malaysia for a wrongful acquisition of 263 acres of prime land in Kuala Lumpur and consequent trespass.
  • Advising a world-leading clean energy technology company on its patent dispute in Malaysia.
  • Advising the Malaysian subsidiary of a European multinational company and one of the largest chemical producers in the world on its trademark disputes in Malaysia.
  • Acting in judicial review matters relating to decisions of bodies established under statute.
  • Successfully acted for a related company of a multinational online travel agency in a consumer dispute matter in relation to services provided by its parent company.
  • Advised and assisted partners and former partners of a “Big Four” accounting firm in court proceedings in relation to alleged claims of breach of statutory duties, breach of retainer and negligence in relation to its audit of a state-owned enterprise.
  • Successfully acted for a world-leading Swedish consumer product company and obtained judgment against a local online infringer for trademark infringement and passing off.
  • Represented a leading glove manufacturer in assessment of damages proceedings involving an enforcement of undertaking for damages relating to an injunction and successfully reduced the payable damages to less than 5% of the amount claimed.
  • Advised an American entertainment and music application provider regarding its compliance with privacy and data protection laws in Malaysia.

Alexie is a member of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (Malaysia Network). She is also a contributor to “Restructuring And Insolvency – A Commentary” published in 2023 by Sweet & Maxwell. Alexie frequently presents on topics relating to restructuring, corporate rescue mechanisms and fraudulent trading to insolvency practitioners and corporate clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Alexie graduated from the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2015 under a full scholarship from the Malaysian Public Service Department. She obtained her Certificate in Legal Practice in Malaysia in 2016 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court in Malaya in
2018.
